Lore:
The Legend of Mt. Obsidian
High in the shadow of an ancient volcano, where the air hummed with an eerie stillness and the ground sparkled with fragments of jet-black glass, stood the enigmatic Mt. Obsidian. Known for its jagged peaks and fields of volcanic obsidian, the mountain was a place of power, shrouded in tales of magic and mystery. Among these tales was the legend of the Mt. Obsidian candle—a creation as rare and potent as the mountain itself.
The Mountain's Origins
Long ago, Mt. Obsidian was the site of a cataclysmic eruption that reshaped the land. Molten rock flowed for miles, cooling into rivers of obsidian that gleamed under the moonlight like frozen shadows. The local people, a reclusive tribe known as the Onyx Clans, believed the mountain was alive, its fiery heart pulsing with the spirit of a slumbering guardian.
The guardian, they said, was a primordial being of fire and stone who had protected the land for millennia. When humanity grew reckless, exploiting the earth's gifts without reverence, the guardian unleashed his fury, creating the eruption that birthed Mt. Obsidian. Yet, even in his rage, the guardian left behind a gift: obsidian, a substance imbued with his essence. The Onyx Clans revered it, using it for tools, weapons, and rituals to maintain harmony with the land.
The Creation of the Candle
Generations later, a gifted artisan and mystic named Serah of the Onyx Clans sought to honor the mountain's spirit in a new way. Serah believed the obsidian carried not only the power of the earth but also the echoes of the guardian’s fiery soul. She envisioned a candle that could harness this energy, a beacon to guide and protect her people.
Serah spent years gathering the rarest fragments of obsidian from the mountain's sacred heart, known as the Obsidian Crater. She ground the shards into a fine, shimmering powder and blended it with wax infused with volcanic ash and rare herbs found only on the mountain’s slopes. The resulting candle, named Mt. Obsidian, burned with a deep, flickering flame that seemed alive—dancing with shadows of molten red and smoky black.
A Lost Treasure
Over the centuries, the secret of crafting the Mt. Obsidian candle was lost to time. The Onyx Clans faded into legend, and the mountain became a site of wonder and fear. Adventurers spoke of strange phenomena on Mt. Obsidian—phantom lights dancing among the peaks, whispers in the wind, and the feeling of being watched by an unseen presence.
It is said that only a few Mt. Obsidian candles remain, hidden in forgotten shrines or buried deep within the mountain’s caves. Those who seek them do so at great peril, for the mountain does not easily yield its treasures. Yet the stories persist, drawing mystics and explorers to Mt. Obsidian in search of its ancient light.
The Candle’s Legacy
The Mt. Obsidian candle stands as a symbol of balance and reverence for the forces of nature. Its legend reminds us of the delicate harmony between creation and destruction, and the enduring power of the earth’s fiery heart. Even now, as the mountain looms silently under the stars, its story continues to inspire those who dare to seek the light within the shadows.
